Georges Braque
Georges Braque is the other founder of Cubism. For several years he and Picasso were so close that their paintings can be hard to tell apart — a rare, almost scientific collaboration.
He came through Fauvism first, then met Cézanne’s late landscapes at L’Estaque. The houses there flatten into facets; the twentieth century starts.
After the war (he was badly wounded) his Cubism grows quieter, more tactile: guitars, fruit, the lettering of newspapers, the grain of wood.
